No official mod support and no Steam Workshop. What sits on Nexus Mods as of Sep 29 2026, which mod to install first, and what the devs add free.
Dressmaker Mods: No Official Support, but a Real Nexus Library
Dressmaker has no official mod support and no Steam Workshop. Eleven days before launch, on 10 September 2026, a developer-tagged Steam account answered a thread titled Game modding? with one line: we currently don't have mod support planned. The game was never wired to Steam Workshop either, and its store category list carries no Workshop entry. What does exist is a fan-made library on Nexus Mods, roughly 38 to 39 mods as of a 29 September 2026 snapshot, built around one unofficial loader that also patches the accessibility gaps the base game leaves open. Nothing in that library is endorsed by Cozy Lives or Free Lives, and it can break the moment a patch lands.
- Official support: none. Developer reply dated 10 September 2026, and no public statement since.
- Steam Workshop: not connected. Seven store categories ship, none of them Workshop.
- The library: Nexus Mods, about 38 to 39 mods across five categories, snapshotted 29 September 2026.
- Install order: Yuuma's Dressmaker ModLoader first, if you want custom content, cheats, or the accessibility options.
- The free route: monthly Tea newsletters, two patches in the first three days, and transparent fabrics plus controller support already on the official roadmap.
What the developer said, and where to read it
| Source | What it says | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Steam thread Game modding? | StinkyLilTwinky asks on 7 Sep 2026 whether modders could add patterns and fabrics. Hyphenza, tagged developer, replies 10 Sep 2026 at 07:00: we currently don't have mod support planned | Official, first-hand, pre-launch |
| Steam store categories for app 4019220 | On the Dressmaker store page, the category list reads Single-player, Steam Achievements, Custom Volume Controls, Mouse Only Option, Playable without Timed Input, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing. The Workshop tag, id 28, is absent | Official |
| Store page markup | The word workshop appears only inside Steam's global site navigation, never in a Dressmaker block | Official, supporting |
| Nexus Mods game hub | A Dressmaker page exists with a live mod count. No developer endorsement appears anywhere on it | Third-party host |

One caveat about the timeline. That reply landed before release; the Nexus ecosystem sprang up in the days after, built by players who did not wait for permission. Nobody has publicly reversed the position, but nobody has re-answered the question either. Read it as a snapshot from September, not a promise about the next build.
What is on Nexus right now
| Category | Count on 29 Sep 2026 | What actually lands there |
|---|---|---|
| Miscellaneous | 22 | Cheats, automation and quality-of-life edits, plus the odd fabric bundle. More than half the library |
| Fabric | 13 | Texture packs and recolours, the largest purely cosmetic group |
| Characters | 1 | Custom clients |
| Utilities | 1 | Fabric painting and base-colour tooling |
| Visuals | 1 | Look-and-feel changes |
The five category counts total 38, while the game hub header reads Mods 39; the extra entry is likely uncategorised or hidden, so quote the library as about 38 to 39. Treat both as a 29 September 2026 snapshot. The library moved fast in its first weekend, with several fabric mods posted on 28 and 29 September alone, so read the number as a floor. The language filter adds detail: English on 4 mods, Portuguese (Brazil) on 2, Spanish (Latin America) on 2, and one each in Arabic, Czech, Thai and Ukrainian. Community-observed; it may change with game updates.
The one mod to install first
Yuuma's Dressmaker ModLoader is entry 1 on the Nexus page and is the dependency other custom content builds on. The author is Yuumeow, and the page carries its own disclaimer: this is unofficial, fan-made content, not affiliated with or endorsed by Cozy Lives or Free Lives.
Start with the vanilla drafting screen. It is the one place in the game that already exports a finished pattern as a file and imports one back in, which is why the pattern library is the natural first surface for any third-party tool to extend. Reading this screen before the ModLoader section list makes the rest of the library easier to place.

| ModLoader section | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Accessibility | Brightness and saturation controls, a permanently visible sewing zoom grid, softer gridline colours, and a switch that stops the cutting arrows flickering |
| Cheats | Coin, unlock and quality shortcuts layered over the base game |
| Fabric Properties Editor | Edit tint, pattern size and gloss on individual fabrics |
| Custom models | Support for reusing one accessory trim model across repeated trims |
| Modding tutorial | A written guide for building your own content |
Unlock-everything and infinite-coin mods flatten the exact constraint the design is built on. There is no fabric resale, so a wrong bolt is a permanent subtraction, and money pressure is what makes the story commissions hard. Treat a cheat mod as a sandbox switch, not a progression path, and keep a clean save for the run you actually want to finish.
The rest of the library, sorted by what you want it for
| Mod | Author | What it does | Snapshot signal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yuuma's Dressmaker ModLoader | Yuumeow | Loader, accessibility, cheats, fabric editor | Entry 1, the dependency for custom content |
| Dressmaker Automation | buchongfuname | Infinite coins, automatic grainline alignment, automatic mannequin sizing | 123 downloads |
| Cheats Menu | Gabssby | Coins, reputation, fabric and accessory unlocks, every pattern, automated sewing, affinity boost | Present in the 29 Sep listing |
| Unlock Everything | Nexus entry 31, credited to MrFandango101 | One-press unlock of all fabrics, patterns and accessories via Ctrl+Shift+C then Ctrl+Shift+U | The same entry appears as Ultimate Unlocker in one search snapshot, so it is one mod with two names, not two mods |
| My Immortal Screening | Yuumeow | Example custom story pack with its own character, commission and measurements | Proof that mods reach the story layer, not just textures |
| Glittery Fantasy Fabrics 2 | potato23456789pot | Fantasy fabric pack | 78 downloads |
| Thedas Cloth Imports | not stated in the listing | Dragon Age: Inquisition cloth textures pulled into the game | A texture import, not new mechanics |
| Utilities fabric painter | InkWulph1996 | Base-colour options for painting a dress, described in Spanish | 14.0 KB file, 370 downloads, 4 endorsements, posted 28 Sep 2026 |
| Fun Scene Fabrics | InkWulph1996 | A collection of scene fabrics | 2.2 MB, 184 downloads, 2 days old at snapshot |
That last column is thin on purpose. Mod authors are not competing on installs, and the two entries with recorded download counts, 123 and 78, are single digits of players. A library where nobody has a large audience is a library where nobody has stress-tested it against a patch.
How installing actually works, and what nobody has verified
There is no in-game mod browser, no mod menu, no enable switch in the Options screen, and no Workshop integration to fall back on. Nexus Mods is the only source, and the install path is the ordinary one: a Nexus account, Vortex or a manual download, and files placed like any other Nexus title. Four things are worth knowing before you start.
- Install the ModLoader before any custom content mod. Custom story packs such as My Immortal Screening declare it as their dependency; cheat menus and fabric packs are the entries that do not need it.
- The ModLoader page ships the modding tutorial. Nobody has published an official toolchain, so the tutorial in the fan loader is the closest thing to documentation that exists.
- Read the stated build requirement on each mod page. The game shipped a patch on 22 September and another on 24 September, two days apart, both touching the cutting room and the sewing scene.
- Back up your save before the first install. No compatibility matrix has been published by anyone, official or fan.
Two patches and a 450-plus fabric pool sit between a fresh save and the point where an unlock mod would even be interesting. The walkthrough covers the measuring, dress-form and cutting loop that every mod assumes you already know, and the quality guide explains what the style-score clients are actually paying for.
The strongest reason to install anything is accessibility, not content
The base game documents two accessibility affordances: sewing assist, and optional accessory rotation. Zoom is bound to the middle mouse button or Z, and remappable keys mean the game can be played mouse-only, which Steam's own category list confirms with Mouse Only Option.
What it does not document is a UI scale setting. Searching 600-plus English Steam reviews turns up no mentions of UI scale, UI size, resolution or keybinding options, and the Options menu shows none of them. That is a could-not-find result rather than a confirmed absence, so open your own menu before you install anything. The zoom and camera guide covers the keybinds in full, including the Mac case where an AZERTY keyboard and a mouse with no scroll wheel leaves the Z binding dead.
The bugs players reported after launch sit in exactly the area the ModLoader accessibility tab addresses: one report says that once you zoom in you cannot zoom back out unless you spam clicks outside the mannequin, and another says mannequin rotation succeeds less than half the time and moves about a centimetre when it does. Both were posted after release and neither has an official fix attached. Community-observed; they may change with game updates. Proper controller support is also still missing, which is why the Mac and Steam Deck notes are all about remapping.
What the developers are adding instead, for free
The distance between no mod support planned and no new content is short, because the roadmap is already public and moving.
| What | Status as of 30 September 2026 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly Tea newsletter | Running since 15 April 2026: April, May, July and August Teas, then Scalding September Tea on 7 Sep and After Party Tea on 22 Sep | Steam news feed |
| Bug-fix patches | Build 403 on 22 Sep fixed failed commissions not paying and made you ring the bell to summon the next customer. Build 410 on 24 Sep fixed cutting-room panel scrolling, made thread colour clickable in the sewing scene, and fixed a tutorial softlock | Official patch notes |
| Content in the base game | 150-plus dress pieces, 450-plus fabrics, 350-plus accessories, roughly 35 hours of commissioned story | Launch announcement |
| Transparent fabrics | Not in the launch build. The developers say layered transparency with double-sided meshes needs extra work to get looking right | Launch announcement |
| Online challenge mode | Announced: compare your dress designs with other dressmakers and vote for favourites | Launch announcement |
| Controller support | Not at launch. The team says the game runs fast on Steam Deck and that they want to give it proper controller support | Launch announcement |
| Mobile and Switch ports | Announced, no dates attached | Launch announcement |

The single most-requested feature is not on that list. The loudest suggestion thread on the Steam forums asks to let story characters actually wear the clothes players create, and it remains a wish rather than a commitment. If that is the change you want, the Steam forum thread and the official Discord are where requests get logged. There is also a content creator application on the developers' link page, which is aimed at creators rather than modders and is not a modding programme.
FAQ
Does Dressmaker have mod support? Not officially. A developer-tagged account replied on the Steam forums on 10 September 2026 that the team currently has no mod support planned. That reply predates launch, and no later public statement reverses it. What exists on Nexus is entirely fan-made.
Is there a Steam Workshop for Dressmaker? No. The game's Steam category list has no Workshop entry, and the store page mentions Workshop only inside Steam's global navigation. Every mod lives on Nexus Mods, which is also where the unofficial loader comes from.
Can I add my own fabrics and patterns to Dressmaker? Yes, through Yuuma's Dressmaker ModLoader, which acts as the dependency base for custom content. My Immortal Screening is a working example of a custom story pack with its own character, commission and measurements. Expect to follow a fan-written tutorial rather than an official toolchain.
What is the best Dressmaker mod for accessibility? The ModLoader's Accessibility tab, because it supplies what the base game lacks: brightness and saturation controls, a permanently visible sewing zoom grid, softer gridline colours, and an option to stop the cutting arrows flickering. The base game documents sewing assist and optional accessory rotation, and no UI scale option could be found in the menu or in reviews.
Will a patch break my Dressmaker mods? Possibly, and no compatibility matrix exists anywhere. Two patches landed within two days of launch, on 22 and 24 September 2026, both touching the cutting room and the sewing scene. Check each mod page's update date, and back up your save folder before installing.
Are Dressmaker mods safe to install, and can I get banned? They are third-party files that Cozy Lives and Free Lives have not endorsed, so read the description before you install and treat them like any other fan tool. The ModLoader page states outright that its author is not affiliated with the developers or the publisher.
Where should I ask for a mod the developers have not made? The Steam forums and the official Discord are the two channels the developers themselves point players at, and both are where the story-clothing-wearing request is currently sitting.
